10/11/06

This was the most interesting observation I've done. The patient came in because she has been having understanding problems in the classroom. After her hearing was found to be normal, the clinician began testing central auditory processing. Several methods were used to test this including:
-words and background noise were presented at the same time
-present 2 words at the same time to opposite ears & the pt. repeats both words
-present 2 sentences to opp. ears & pt. repeats the sentences given in a specific ear
Auditory Fusion Test- Revised
-one tone is presented binaurally & pt. tells when tone sounds like two tones
Spondaic Words for Masking Level Difference
-present spondees with masking noise as both in-phase and out-of-phase
(normal auditory processing can understand better when out-of-phase)

Her results were ok (she was in the first standard deviation??). She was advised to sit in the front of the classroom and ask the teacher for handouts of the lectures.

10/4/06

This week I observed a lovely elderly lady. She came in to have her hearing aids checked. The clinician used audiometry, SRT, WR, MCL, and UCL to examine her hearing. The patient's hearing aids were making sounds too loud. After looking at the previous settings, the low freq. were too loud for the amount of loss. I did not get to see the end of the session. Hopefully, she is happy with the changes! So this makes 2 for 2 on HAC for me...
